YANGONstartrekpinball, June 22 (Xinhua) -- A total of 43 people have been killed and 156 others injured in 80 road accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway during the first five months of 2024, according to the country's Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) on Saturdaystartrekpinball.

This year's highway accident statistics were up compared to 76 traffic accidents in the same period last year, which resulted in 50 deaths and 153 injuries, the RTAD's figures showed.

The 587 km Yangon-Mandalay expressway, the busiest highway in Myanmar, connects the country's commercial city Yangon with its second-largest city Mandalay.

In 2023, 86 people were killed and 326 injured in 163 road accidents on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway.■
