Mining giants BHP Billiton and Vale have offered to pay Brazil about $25.7 billiongoldenleprechaunmegaways, as compensation for the collapse of tailings dams in two joint-venture iron ore companies in 2015.

The two companies are currently resuming negotiations with Brazilian authorities that broke down last year. Brazil has been demanding 155 billion reais (about US$43 billion) for compensation, compensation and other damage.

BHP Billiton said in a statement on Monday that BHP and Vale's proposal is divided into three parts, with $14.4 billion in cash payments to the Brazilian government "over a long period of time, well beyond a decade."

Brazil's Attorney General's Office is analyzing the proposal and is expected to submit a joint statement with the two affected states to the court mediating the negotiations by Friday.
